How comedian Gary Owen earned his Black stripes and BET show
BET Networks has picked up the first season of The Gary Owen Show, a 10-episode reality series focusing on the life of American actor and stand-up comedian Gary Owen as he balances family time with wife Kenya and their three children, Emilio (21), Austin (15) and Kennedy (14) and a successful career on stage.
It’s no surprise Owen snagged the new hot spot on BET’s Tuesday late night line-up; the seasoned jokester has been making people fall off their chairs with laughter since his debut on “Comic View“ back in 1997. Owen literally has no filter and is ready to go there on his new show. Comedy cures all for Owen. As a product of a broken home, telling jokes became a reliable antidote to keep his peace of mind afloat during hard times. Laughter is the key to maintaining a job in his household and is what keeps an unbreakable between Owen and his family of four.
The Ohio native transitioned from living in a not-so-glamorous trailer park to residing in an 11,000 sq. foot home in an affluent suburb. Now, of course, a story such as this should be on TV and is well overdue. It’s the perfect time for cable television to land a more authentic reality show
