Angelina Jolie is the highest paid actress in Hollywood. She has won scores of awards for her work as an actress and producer. Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA Award, Emmy Award and Golden Globe Awards are some of the awards she has won. In addition, she has won several awards outside the film industry for her humanitarian work. She is ranked among the most generous celebrities. She is bringing up six adopted children with Brad Pitt. She has setup several charitable organizations such as Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation and Maddox Chivan Children’s Center. She has visited several countries around the world to meet the refugees. She has visited Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Darfur, Chad, Libya, Ecuador, Afghanistan, Pakistan and many other countries and regions with displaced persons and refugees. She has worked for more than ten years for UNHCR and undertaken scores of field missions for refugees. UNHCR has promoted her and now she holds the exceptional position of Special Envoy of High Commissioner António Guterres. Her humanitarian work has also been recognized and she has won awards from national, foreign and international humanitarian organizations including UNO.
These days, she is visiting Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq as a special envoy for the U.N.’s refugee agency. There, she is visiting refugee camps for the Syrians. These camps are providing shelter to Syrians who have fled the armed conflict or civil war going in Syria. The brutal conflict has already claimed thousands of lives.
At the refugee camps, she surveyed the relief efforts being undertaken. She met hundreds of refugees, listened to their stories, and expressed her tearful concern at their plight. She was worried about the insufficient protection provided to the refugees against the approaching winter. She also met the officials of the countries for the refugees. During her visit, she appealed the world to extend every possible help to the Syrian refugees. Her visit might bring to light the plight of the displaced, abandoned and stranded Syrians. With this visit, once again, Jolie has shown that her humanitarian work transcends borders and barriers of race, class, country and gender. She is not only a beauty icon but also a symbol of global goodness.
Her humanitarian visits have helped Jolie grow as an actress and producer. A recent case is ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’. This movie has been written and produced by Jolie. She got the idea of making this movie from her field missions to Bosnia as a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador. So, there is a likelihood, she might translate this visit to the Syrian refugee camps into a movie in future.
